November 19, 2008 00:11 AM  BY  STACEY BARRUS

Whether you’re planning a bathroom for a new construction, or you’re looking to remodel your existing bathroom, there are several things to consider regarding your heating systems options, especially when it comes to making your new bathroom comfortable and energy-efficient. Warm tiled floors are rapidly becoming standard for new and remodeled homes. Radiant floor heating has always been considered a distinctive quality, so if you are building a new home or remodeling any of your floors, now is the time to add under floor heating for a new level of comfort and warmth.

A good many of the products available today can be installed by do-it-yourself homeowners. For small areas electric radiant heating system products are usually the best for reasons of cost and ease of installation. Not only will heated floors add comfort to your bathrooms, but they allow you to heat your bathrooms as well.

Efficiency is high with this type of heating system because radiant heat raises the surface temperature of what it is warming, thereby providing comfort at a lower room-air temperature than other systems. Radiant heating systems provide uniform heat and has a comparatively low cost of operation - up to 30% less than conventional systems in most residences. That’s quite remarkable!

Cut Costs While Gaining Comfort

November 18, 2008 00:11 AM  BY  STACEY BARRUS

Evenly distributed radiant heat in your floors will allow you to turn down your thermostat two to four degrees. This can reduce energy costs by 10-40% and can be verified with your local utility company. This setback to your thermostat can happen because a radiant floor heats from the ground up and delivers the heat through objects not air. This makes the lowest three feet of your home the most comfortable where a forced air system loses its heat to the ceiling and is required to heat from the top down. Delivering heat by air also makes it easy to escape and increase your overall heat loss.

The silent operation of a radiant floor heating system free from drafts or flying dust particles is why these systems are becoming so popular. Home owners are searching for ways in which they can create a healthier environment to live in. Forced air systems can spread dust, pollen and germs while a radiant floor heating system uses electric resistance cables under the floor or PEX tubing that circulates heated water. Radiant heating system warm floors to a comfortable level and naturally spreads its heat to objects in the room making your living areas much more enjoyable. Heating your home with radiant floors will make breathing easier and not dry you out. Imagine your floors without the need for vents or hot air blowing down from the ceiling.

Craving Comfort? Look No Further?

November 17, 2008 00:11 AM  BY  STACEY BARRUS

Brrrrr!!! This morning when we got up, we saw that the outside temperature was below freezing. We didn’t know that until we saw the outside thermometer, though, because we enjoy evenly distributed and ultra-comfortable radiant floor heating. We have no cold spots in the bathrooms or on tiled floors; it’s all just a cozy warmth.

One bonus to One of the most popular products for radiant floor heating is Danfoss LX heating mats. The Danfoss LX Mats include a red heating cable woven into an adhesive-backed fiberglass mesh that allows for simple roll-out installation without worrying about heating cable spacing. The floor warming mats are pre-terminated for use with 120 and 240 volts, and are available in various lengths of 24″ widths to accommodate any room’s layout. The Danfoss LX tile floor warming mats emit no measurable electromagnetic fields due to the shielded dual conductor design. This dual conductor cable requires only one cold lead connection making it easy to layout and install.

Instead of rising like warm air, radiant floor heating starts by warming the coldest and closest objects from its source.

Radiant Floor Heating Tip: Many in the kitchen and bath industry expect radiant floor heating to continue to play a big role among homeowners who crave comfort features.

Installation Techniques for Outdoor Heating Mats

November 17, 2008 00:11 AM  BY  ROBERT COHEN

It's true that the Danfoss GX mats make the installation process much easier for a radiant snow melting system in your driveway, walkway, or patio area, but simple mistakes can create a huge headache. Here are some important techniques to remember before you begin laying the heat cable.

The cable rows are pre-spaced, which eliminates the confusion for DIY-ers trying to figure out the correct method of laying heat cables.  One of the most important things to remember is to never cut the heating cable. DIY-ers using the GX mat feel inclined to cut the cable, in order to make turns or heat odd areas where the mat cannot reach. Here are some helpful videos that show the proper method for laying the mats and making turns without cutting the heating cable.

Radiant Heat Installation - 90 Degree Turn

Radiant Heat Installation - 180 Degree Turn

When laying the mats, remember to keep the mat rows at least two inches apart from each other. Cables that are too close together will overheat and reduce the lifespan of the cable. Following these simple and easy steps will ensure a fully functioning system when you are done with the project. I always recommend hiring an electrician to do the final wiring steps to power the snow melting system. A professional should be able to complete the wiring from the control unit, to the automatic sensor, and ultimately to the heating system, in a matter of an afternoon.

Consider the Comfort

November 16, 2008 00:11 AM  BY  STACEY BARRUS

Having toasty toes in the bathroom on a cold wintry morning is one of life’s little pleasures, and Warmzone is happy to make that possible with radiant floor heating products. This season, you’ll see Warmzone’s radiant floor heating on ABC-TV’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition .

Warmzone enjoyed being able to give back to the community, and was happy to donate heated tiles, part of the radiant floor heating products, to the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition team for the Ray-Smith family of Maine. The family – who was chosen by ABC for a total home renovation — were in debt from school and medical bills. To save money, they moved into a family home in Maine built by Mrs. Ray-Smith’s great-great grandparents. However, the home was in severe disrepair: the foundation was cracking, there was no insulation, and the electrical wiring was unsafe. And a harsh Maine winter is coming!

Warmzone’s contribution to the heating solution was heated tile that kept costs down, was simple to operate, and is maintenance-free. “The heated tile should help keep heating costs down and keep the family warm during cold Maine nights. Warmzone is glad to participate with Extreme Home Makeover and countless volunteers. We hope the Ray-Smith family — both living and not — are enjoying a safe and comfortable home,” says Tracy Stanger, President and CEO of Warmzone.

Radiant Floor Heating Tip: Not only is radiant floor heating more comfortable, but the costs of operating radiant floor heating systems are often reported to be significantly decreased as compared to other residential heating options.
